Info and Description

The Christmas period is pure magic and there is nothing better than the Christmas markets to immerse yourself in that atmosphere of joy and harmony, which only this period can make us live.

This is why we choose to spend entire weekends among the chalets that invade the squares. When we think of Christmas markets, the first thing that comes to mind is certainly Trentino Alto Adige . What if we tell you that tradition has also taken hold in Tuscany for a few years now?

Young and old people are getting ready to experience the Christmas atmosphere with the typical products of the South Tyrolean and Tuscan regions, drinking mulled wine and buying original home decorations handmade by artisans.

The most famous markets in Tuscany are certainly in Florence, Montepulciano and Arezzo. But many villages, from the largest to the smallest, are decorated with typical lights and stalls.

Their main squares are filled, hosting many stands of different types: from food to decorations, from hand-woven woolen garments, to candles in the shape of Santa Claus or his reindeer with sled. And the typical Tuscan products are addes to all this, sometimes becoming the undisputed protagonists.

The Christmas markets in Tuscany

The Florence market takes place in Piazza Santa Croce, already famous for the statue of Dante. In addition to this truly suggestive scenery, the stalls, or rather the typical wooden chalets, fill the entire square which takes on a new aspect.

A typical Christmas village is then set up, enriched with decorations and lights that sparkle on the stalls of about fifty exhibitors. And you cannot miss the Santa Claus House, with a post box to send the famous "letter".

That of Montepulciano develops between via San Donato and the majestic Piazza Grande, with a large pedestrian area available. It extends throughout the town, with an ice rink and “ Santa Claus Castle ”.

The stalls, no less than 60 chalets, show the artisans at work, in the process of creating decorations and typical objects. Do not miss the sweets and Christmas specialties, Tuscan and Tyrolean.

The fortress is home to Santa's House, where elves take children to see where Santa lives. Furthermore, a wonderful surprise for them will be to reach the Salone where they can meet him!! And at nightfall? A Montepulciano festively lit up with lights and sparkles in the streets and on the historic buildings.

Moving a few kilometers, we find the Tyrolean village of Arezzo. The Big Lights show of lights and colors, created on the 4 sides of the square, also comes back in the splendid scenography of Piazza Grande. Arezzo, the City of Christmas: what else could we expect if not magic and atmosphere? 32 chalets and 2 small huts welcome exhibitors from all over Europe.

There are also live demonstrations by artisans from Arezzo and elsewhere, who make hand-carved baskets. What we like best is the green area dedicated to fir trees and sustainable shopping. A new idea of giving gifts.

The Christmas Brick also returns with the Lego village and an exhibition of collectors. In addition to all this, inside the Palazzo della Fraternita dei Laici, you will find Santa Claus 5 meters high and illuminated by thousands of LEDs!
