The property is an excellent base for a holiday in Tuscany. Lucca is a delightful town - a treasure trove of art, architecture and culture. Its famous walls enclose a relatively unspoiled centre with countless churches, museums, palazzi and towers. There is an active social scene including art exhibitions, theatre and music. Regular markets sell local produce, antiques and craft works and there are many good restaurants, bars and shops to enjoy. The large salt-water swimming pool is situated above the grape vines with a beautiful panorama of the hills and the Lucca plain.
If you want to wander there is plenty to choose from - the beaches of Viareggio and the Versilian Riviera (25 km), the beautiful nature reserves of the Garfagnana and the Apuan Alps (40-70 km). To the north the Cinque Terre and to the south the Maremma, with its ancient Etruscan sites of Baratti and Populonia are both worth a day trip. Pisa (16 km), Florence (65km) and Siena are all within easy reach as are the famous vineyards of Chianti.
