Apartments in Farmhouse: Activity
The classification of the Tuscan agriturismos buildings present some characteristics with respect to the classifications adopted for the classic receptive structures, due to the elements and services, which this receptive typology proposes and evaluates on the territory.
It not only sets the objective to evaluate the structural parameters, as it happens in the traditional tourist classification, but it must take into consideration over all the most typical aspects of the farm holidays offer, i.e. the elements bounded with the agriculture, with the typical productions, with the rural culture, with the natural habitat and with the landscape.
Not far from the farm stands an isolated little mountain with a so regular circular form, that it has always roused suspicion. In 1953 the countryman decided to make on that arid little mountain, where the other cultivations gave scarce fruits, a plantation of olives.
Working the soil the ploughshare knocked against a big travertine plate; the countryman had discovered without any intention the "Tumulo del Molinello" (Tumulus of Mulinello). Irregular excavations were begun from 1960-61 with the opening of the central room and four side rooms; the works have been interrupted and then started again only after 20 years, in 1981.
They discovered a second central tomb and further seven side tombs and a last one was located but not excavated. In the tomb have been discovered numerous objects of great archaeological value, which will be exhibited in the new archaeological museum of Asciano at last, after having been for twenty years in the stores in Florence. |
