At 80 km from Tunisia and about 100 from Sicily is the island of Pantelleria, the only minor island having an airport that connects with Trapani then Rome and Milano. To enjoy a lengthy vacation here it is best to rent a “dammuso“ which is a typical structure of this island.
Here is where one will mostly savour a very simple lifestyle: dinner out in the open and a stone barbecue on which to cook fresh fish and sausages, the warmth of the sun, the scent of the sea, and the magnificent colours so characteristic of this tiny yet charming island.
The dammuso is in a village 4 km from Pantelleria; it rises on the outer edge of a lavic flow and faces the sea.
Upon entering there’s a garden surrounded by the typical mediterranean vegetation, olive and fig trees and colourful bougainvilles.
Walking across a lovely shaded terrace you then enter into a large and sunny living room (45 mq ); a stone archway separates this room with a well equipped kitchen area, suited for about 12 people.
It consists of three bedrooms all with view on the sea and two bathrooms.
Next to the dwelling is a dependance which has been excavated in a cave and turned into a bedroom with a French bed, a small bathroom, and a shaded terrace again with view of the sea.
As said before, the dammuso has a large terrace (200 mq) from which you may enjoy the fantastic panorama of the sea relaxing on comfortable deck chairs, and take advantage of it’s outdoor showers as well. A part of the terrace is shaded in the characteristic “cannizzo” style and has a typical outdoor oven to be used for summer meals. The dammuso is furnished with local pieces and ceramics of the area (De Simone).
It has its own private parking and private path leading to the sea which is only 300 mt from the home.
From 2 to a maximum of 8 people may reside at the dammuso.
It is advisable to rent a car or scooter.
