The production area is the entire territory of Montalcino’s county, at 40 km south from Siena. It’s delimited by the Valle dell’Orcia, dell’Asso and dell’Ombrone and it’s spread over approximately 16 km with a surface of 2400 hectares.
Montalcino took shape during different geological eras, as a consequence, its soil results made of different compositions.
In order to cultivate grapevines, only the hilly vineyards, well displayed and at an altitude under 600 meters on the sea’s lever are regarded as suitable winegrowing areas.
Soil’s land, shaped by the decomposition of native rocks is Galestro and Alberese , (calcareous, shaly, clayey and sandy with fossil fragments, Pliocenico and calcareous with fossil fragments.
Climate: is typically Mediterranean, mild that assures the gradual and complete maturity of grapes.
Precipitations: rainfalls are concentrates in spring and late autumn (the year average is 700 mm).
The proximity of Monte Amiata (1740 m), at south-east, represents an important barrier against atmosphere factors, like downpours or hail that could threaten the wineries.
Moreover, the presence of breezes plays a positive role with good effect on the vineyards’ health.
The most common rearing’s shape, that is also the one we make use of, is the spurred cordon obtained through short pruning (two gems) of a number of stump little horn.
GRAPE VARIETIES
Red Grapes Sangiovese Grosso, called Brunello, Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

Sangiovese
Brunello di Montalcino is obtained from Sangiovese, which represents the most important vineyard of Central Italy, authentic flag of Toscany.
Grown in the entire world, it’s famous for its violet perfume.
Cabernet Sauvignon
French vineyard of great temperament, the main variety of Medoc.
It’s spread all over the world and it gives origin to spiced vines, herbaceous, tannic with a typical perfume of currant (ribes)
In Italy it’s made large use of this type of vineyard with extraordinary results. As to say, it’s used to produce the well-known Sassicaia.
Cabernet Franc
It represents variety of Cabernet Sauvignon, very used in the area of Bordolese Merlot.
