Bominaco:
Is located above a little village on the outskirts of the town of Caporciano at 950 m s.l.m.
It is off route SS. 17, about 30 km. south east of L'Aquila. On a hill overlooking the village is the newly restored Castle which was part of a network of defensive watch towers, surrounded by the highest mountains of Abruzzo: the Gran Sasso, the Maiella and the Velino Sirente.
Bominaco, ancient seat of Momenaco, was once one of the richest and most famous of the Benedictine monasteries. Today only the abbey of Santa Maria Assunta (XII) and the oratory of San Pellegrino (XIII) have survived.
The benedictine monastery served not only as center of devotion, learning, spiritual relief but also as an economical richness. In the vicinity of Bominaco there are a number of interesting old towns rich in art, churches and parks.
